For those who may new to Adult Verification Systems I will attempt to lay some of the ground work and answer some of the most basic questions about AVS. This article may be a bit too basic for webmasters who already have a firm knowledge of AVS sites but in order to serve the interests of everyone I felt it was necessary to start at the very beginning. The most basic question is "What is an Adult Verification System?". The answer is that it is a group of sites that share a common password in order to gain access to the content of all the sites, who belong. The password is obtained by paying a fee to the company that owns the AVS. The fee is paid only once and recurs as you specify. The AVS then shares a portion of the fees collected with the webmasters who contribute sites to the system. The system generally has ways to track which sites have contributed the most members and pays out accordingly. Some systems have additional perks and features but the pivotal feature is the verification password. The idea behind all of this is that if a surfer has access to a credit card or checking account or something similar then the likelihood that they are an adult is much higher. In my opinion that is a reasonable assumption. How it woks from a webmaster standpoint is that a webmaster builds a public preview of their adult website. They build a private adult website which contains their adult content. They submit both of these URLs to the verification system. The system will supply the webmaster with a script which can be cut and pasted into the public portion of their website and the script will automatically connect users to the private section of their website if, and only if, they have the verification password. For the bigger verification systems there is an approval process after you plug in your script. Someone from the verification system has to visit your site and make sure that it follows all of the rules that sites within the system must follow. Approval generally takes a few days to a week and then you receive an Email informing you that your site is ready to go. There are dozens if not hundreds of Adult Verification Systems. They range anywhere from a handful of sites up into the hundreds of thousands of sites. There are tons more systems, but those are some of the noteworthy ones. I would recommend visiting them all and reading through their features and terms. Try out as many of them as you have time to and reuse the ones that give you the best results over and over again. Best of luck! |
